Frequently Asked Questions

Click to edit this item.  WHAT SHOULD I WEAR AND BRING WITH ME?

  • Early spring, dress warm, Summer months dress in layers.
  • We suggest packing raingear, just in case.
  • Boots are always a good idea, since the deck can get wet from hosing down often and it keeps the fish goop from getting on good shoes.
  • Please pack a lunch and bring your drinks (soda, water, beer, etc) in a reasonable sized cooler. We do not have the room for extra large coolers.
  • All bait & gear will be provided, Please bring your fishing licenses.
  • Alcohol is allowed in moderation only. Overly intoxicated individuals will be asked to sit in the cabin for remainder of day. No refunds for over intoxication. If you check in the morning of the trip intoxicated, you will be denied boarding. No refunds. Thanks for understanding.
  • We do provide coffee.

  • If you are prone to sea-sickness, we suggest taking Triptone brand 24 hours prior to your trip and the morning of, to get your system used to it. Try to avoid "Dramamine" We feel this medication is too strong for some, especially children. It can hinder instead of help.

How much should I tip the crew?

Tipping is optional and not included in fillet fees. We strongly suggest tipping your deckhand. Majority of their income are the tips they receive. A good guidline is 10-20% of your trip cost.  Remember, they work for YOU!

If you feel your deckhand has done an exceptional job, it's always good to reward them for it.

If you notice your deckhand is spending more time dancing than helping, please tell the captain, so he can DANCE TOO!

A GREAT POEM FROM OUR LOYAL CUSTOMER "STEW"

Written to the tune of "Gilligans Island" song. He cranked out this poem/song after winning the Ling Derby 2007 with his derby Ling above:

Just sit right back
and you'll hear a tale
a tale of an awesome trip,
that started out from Westport
aboard the Ultimate.

The deckhand was a Jr Phil
The skipper Phil Senior
Mom and I set sail that day
for a Pacific fishing tour.......
   A Pacific fishing tour

The salmon were the prey of choice
we each maxed out at two.
And lots of rockfish fell on the deck
as the sky cleared from grey to blue.

In rockfish pandamonium
Stew's rod gave a mighty heave
A Ling Cod was there in front of him
Which his eyes could not believe.....
   His eyes could not believe.

The beast lay there with lips closed shut
a bass clenched in its jaw
the bass was hooked, the Ling was not,
Stew was frozen from the awe.....
   Frozen from the awe

'GAFFFFFF!!!! Stew yelled and son was there,
the junior of the Phils.
He moved fast, his aim was true
and he added to his kills.

The fish was huge when it hit the deck
and slammed around in shock.
It may be the derby winner
So Capt Phil burned diesel to the dock.

The Ultimate slid into port
Not sure they they had the time
Phil Jr, fish and Stew ran fast,
to beat the derby chime.......
   to beat the derby chime

Ling tipped the scales at 29 pounds,
and then 4 oz more.
It was the biggest fish that day
a Westport fishing score.

The freezer's full, the rockfish good
the salmon is really fine,
but when the Lingcod hits the grill,
I can hardly wait to dine...

I can hardly wait to dine...
